Nevada Assembly approves AJR2*, 37-2

The Nevada Assembly has approved AJR2* the bill from the 2017 legislative session which would change the state’s constitution to recognize all marriage, regardless of gender. On Friday, March 29, the Assembly voted 37 to 2 to approve the joint resolution for the second time, sending it on to the Senate Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections for its first hearing.

The Senate will continue the same process with a hearing in committee and the a recommendation for the full Senate.  Should the Senate approve, AJR2* will be headed to a vote of the people in November 2020. Approval by the people who change the state’s constitution.

At press time no date had been set for the hearing. The Senate committee meets Tuesdays at 4 pm in the Legislative building in Carson City, Room 3142.  The schedule of meetings and their agendas are posted on the legislature’s website.  Meeting are also televised on the web.

It is not to late to share your opinion on AJR2* (* is important). At press time there were 179 favoring the bill and 99 against. To Share your opinion go  Nevada Legislature website:  enter the bill name and register your opinion.
