The Reno community was greatly saddened when the news of the passing of long time resident Robert (Bobby GoGo) Matheson, 80, was learned of this morning (December 27). GoGo as most people knew him, was a bartender for 20 years at the now closed and demolished The Patio, A Gathering Place. He passed away in his sleep during the night, peacefully.
A Celebration of Life is schedule to be held at Carls – The Saloon (3310 So. Virginia Street) on Saturday January 5 starting at 1 pm. The community is being invited to attend and share their memories of the man who could get everyone to smile and laugh.
GoGo was known for his gracious heart and helping people. He had a contagious smile many said that would always turn a not-so-good day around.
GoGo was born March 29, 1938 and grew up in upstate New York before heading west to Los Angeles where he earned the nick name “GoGo”. In 1984, GoGo moved to the Biggest Little City. He is survived by a sister in upstate New York and several other family members. Because of his outgoing and friendly personality, GoGo built a huge “family” in Reno.
By this afternoon, as the sad news spread, Facebook came alive with condolences from his Reno “family”. Comments of sadness and surprise were being poured out in messages from former colleagues and friends. Heaven gained an amazing angel; Hold the gates open as the rest of us will be there; He will be truly missed, but our memories will live on; were just a couple of the messages posted by friends.
