Mercy rule again! But Reno Pride rolls 22-7

Catcher Lucius Kane

It was a tale of two very different Monday nights as Reno Pride took on the Rejects to move closer to securing the third and final place in the post season Co-Ed Novice Tournament as one of the top three teams on Monday night. Reno Pride bats exploded in a 22 -7 after four innings and the “blue” invoked the mercy rule (a lead of 15 runs after 4 innings). The game had two more minutes remaining in the hour time limit and another inning could have been started.

Reno Pride now has a record of 5 wins, 4 losses while the Rejects fell to 4 wins 5 loses. The teams had been tied for the final position in the post-season tournament. The tournament is made up of the top three finishers in each night of Co-Ed Noice league, a total of 15 teams.

In Monday nights game the Pride bats came alive in the second inning scoring 9 runs making the score 11-0 after two innings. There were two in the park home runs by Del Bates, as hitting the ball out of the playing field is an out. The Rejects pitcher also walked 10 Pride batters.

One of the best plays of the night was a throw from deep left field relayed by the Shortstop to the Catcher (Lucius Kane) who said “Look and I caught it!” putting the runner trying to score from first out at home plate.

Lucius would also get a base hit in the second inning, before crossing home and scoring saying “ it was terrifying!” as he rounded the bases. Kane is new to the team this season and has been improving each game.

Reno Pride will meet LP Bat Attitudes on Wednesday night at the Reno Sports Complex 8:40 pm game time. This is a make-up game from when it rained earlier in the month. Reno Pride won the first meeting against the LP Bat Attitude 15-5. The game is a must win for Pride to make the playoffs.

Pride and the Rejects split their regular season games with the Rejects winning 10-9 in the first game and Pride taking the second 22-7. A win puts Reno Pride in the tournament for the second time in the two season since there inception. A loss could eliminate them from the tournament, depending how a tie is broken with identical win lost records, show the Rejects defeat the Comebacks Wednesday night who have won only one game this season.

Come out for the make-up game and root the team on as support in the stands can make a difference. Yes the game is later at 8”40 pm but they had to fond a field and a time no one else was using. Stray up a little later and route the team on.
