Even though Marriage Equality is legal by court ruling, Nevada moves to make it a legislative action and permanent.
The Nevada Assembly heard the second reading of AJR2 and amendment 23 during its regular scheduled floor session on Wednesday, March 8. The bill would change the state’s constitution redefining marriage in Section 21 Article 1. The bill would remove the enjoined language which states marriage is between one man and one woman to issue licenses to all couples regardless of gender.
The Assembly, on a voice vote, approved the amendment, which simply added the names of Assembly members as co-sponsors of the bill, and bill sending it next to the General File. General File means the bill’s next step is being read again and calling for a vote of the Assembly to approve or not and send it to the State Senate. There is no time line for the bill to appear on the Assembly agenda but it is expected to be soon.
The Democrats control the Assembly 27-15.
This is an on going story.
